Meet Our Clinicians

Joey Huy Tran, LMSW

Pronouns: He/him

Informed by the age-old wisdom of a Vietnamese proverb, "Rivers meander, life has phases", I have come to understand life as a series of ebbs and flows. We can all encounter difficult seasons and experiences that may leave us feeling adrift. However, it's how we choose to navigate these phases that truly shapes us. It's my belief that we shouldn't simply endure these times in silent desperation or bear these burdens alone. Every phase of life, with its challenges and triumphs, deserves care, understanding, and the pursuit of happiness. In our collaboration, we will navigate your life’s tribulations together, transforming suffering into growth, and fostering a sense of ease and joy in your life's journey.

Prior to my career as a Clinical Social Worker, I was deeply involved in community organizing, tirelessly advocating for LGBTQIA acceptance and visibility in my hometown. Empowering marginalized individuals and communities remains a core value of mine. My passion for mental healthcare led me to pursue a Masters of Social Work degree from Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College in New York City, following which I acquired my LMSW license to practice in New York. My professional experience extends to serving diverse age groups within the LGBTQIA community and assisting adults living with HIV/AIDS or other chronic illnesses. Currently, my services are offered within a community health center setting as well as in private practice.

I approach therapy through a person-centered, trauma-informed lens, integrating considerations of attachment and relational dynamics. The work we do will journey through your past while also focusing on present feelings and reactions. Together, we will unearth buried emotions and unrecognized pain, fostering change and healing in the process. I firmly believe that the power to heal and transform resides within us all. I maintain a sex-positive, kink and psychedelic friendly environment and encourage you to bring your full self to our sessions. I continually strive to improve my clinical skills through continuous training and growth, including Intensive Short Term Dynamic Psychotherapy, peer supervision, and one-on-one supervision.
